Crop Protection Inputs

In a country where 81% of the population relies on agriculture,  around 83 %  of them have limited or no access to crop protection inputs (CPI) which has direct effect on productivity. The farmers who do use CPIs have inadequate knowledge of its proper use which results in overuse of CPIs leading to health hazards.

Media

Over 80% of people in Nepal listen to radio, out of which almost 40% - who fall in the poorest category - listen to it on daily basis. Therefore, improving the functioning of the media market in Nepal, particularly the radio targeted to rural populations, has the potential to contribute to pro-poor changes in agricultural practice and productivity.

Pigs

The Pig sector is large and associated overwhelmingly with poor and disadvantaged groups. More than 90% of the 540,000 households involved in rearing pigs have either one or two pigs as ‘fatteners’, in simple, low-cost, low-input, small-scale systems. Pigs are reared mostly in rural areas, with women being central to pig-raising activities.

Rearing pigs help rural households have a safety net in terms of savings, nutritious food security and provide a source of cash for household expenditure.
